My Sewing History
I started sewing when I was 3 as soon as my dear Grandmother would have me hold a sewing needle in my fingers. I made clothes for my paper dolls and learned to sew on a Singer Treadle Machine and my Grandmother's Featherweight. When that happened the birds sang and I have been in heaven ever since. When I was eight years old, I made bound button holes for my cadet blue wool winter coat. I sewed all my clothes until I graduated from high school and then sewed with my Mother and Grandmother hundreds of projects from a quilted bargello jacket to draperies.
My Teaching History
In 1999 I stumbled on machine quilting when, as a rep, accidently called on a long arm machine manufacturing company. Five days later I ordered my first standup quilting machine. I taught within my first year, I wrote technique books, originated The Terry Twist and The Language of Quilting to help others learn faster without the frustration. I created hundreds of videos, made numerous TV appearances, taught over 31 different classes to tens of thousands of quilters at hundreds of National and International Quilt Shows, guilds and shops. Gratefully received the International Machine Quilters Association Teacher of the Year Award.
My Publishing History
Encouraged by my students who are both sitdown and standup machine quilters I wrote 2 basic getting started machine quilting books and videos. Then wrote 3 more books with AQS, American Quilter's Society. One book Hooked On Feathers was the No. 1 Book of the Year in the industry. I continue to write blogs, instructional booklets on free motion machine quilting, publish patterns and designs sharing the ❤ of quilting. Many techniques are now "standards of the industry". I believe in up-close, hands-on progression of a step-by-step learning sequence is the best way for you to achieve success.

What I discovered is that so many machine quilters wanted to learn yet there was a lack of clear, precise instruction that actually showed a progression of steps to achieve our machine quilting goals. I was right. Feeling the need for beginner friendly classes over the years I originated and produced hundreds of videos to educate machine quilters, . I am close friends with many of those students today.
My Machine Quilting History
Having never made a quilt, (clothes yes, quilt top no) bought a long arm!!! It was the best decision I ever made. Since then I have owned 9. I still have "SibbyNell" and "MilliePearl".Gratefully so I am still doing quilts for my very first customer from 1999. It is a joy and a blessing to quilt custom and edge-to-edge for others. Even though I can't sing my goal is to make their quilts sing with meaningful patterns and glorious thread because they and their quilts deserve more.
What I Believe
I believe in the power of the creative spirit. I feel you never have to copy me to be successful. You already have the talent and the ability within you. It is in my approach to teaching to help you find the talent and ability within yourself. I am gloriously blessed to have traveled and met so many of you and to be accepted among you. Remember I started just like you. I know God has given each of us a purpose and I believe that sharing the love of quilting is mine, and I hope through my help in someway you will fulfil yours.
